Laser Dentistry

Laser dentistry is available now in our office for different dental procedures. Our specialist will recommend the use of a laser mostly for soft tissue remedies such as frenectomies (cutting the tight fibers in a tight tongue for example) with no need for stitches and offers a fast recovery. The procedure usually takes a couple of minutes and requires no hospitalization. You can learn more about it in the office.

Benefits of laser therapy

There are several benefits to receiving a laser therapy dental treatment.

  • Many laser treatments do not require anesthesia, and the recovery time is much quicker than with traditional treatment methods.
  • Treatments are more comfortable.
  • There is less potential chance of bacterial infection because laser treatments are so precise.
  • Less chances to retreat the same areas due to the qualities of the LASER

Two types of laser dentistry

There are two different types of laser dentistry: hard tissue and soft tissue. Hard tissue includes treatments such as cavity detection, dental fillings, and tooth sensitivity improvements. Soft tissue treatments include gum reshaping, gum surgery, and muscle attachment improvements.

LANAP = Laser Assisted Regeneration (LAR)

Now offered in our office by our specialist Dr Drennen, an FDA-cleared laser treatment called the LANAP protocol offers a less painful, more successful treatment alternative to conventional surgery. LANAP=LAR is the only scientifically, research proven methodology that results in true periodontal regeneration, new bone growth and gum tissue reattachment. LANAP and LAR is accomplished with the PerioLase MVP-7. It is a free-running, variable pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The 7 variable pulse durations can be thought of as “different lasers” in one device as they have discrete and discriminating tissue interactions. The LANAP=LAR treatment is one of the most successful protocols in treating gum disease because it can target the source of the inflammation without hurting or removing any healthy gum tissue, slow or stop attachment loss and decrease pocket depth, and allowing the body to recover from the chronic infection without the need for scalpel or sutures.
