Dr. Sylvian, also known as Dr. Jen, is a was born in Miami, Florida and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida along with her three brothers. She is the daughter of a minister and certified nurse. Dr. Jen attended the University of Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Health Sciences in 2008 and completed a Master of Public Health degree, thereafter.
During her employment as a dental assistant at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, she was afforded the opportunity to observe and assist in a myriad of interesting cases. She was able to encounter patients on the Autism spectrum, those with osteogenesis imperfecta, craniofacial abnormalities, and cerebral palsy.
Dr. Jen went on to earn her dental degree in 2017 at Howard University College of Dentistry (Washington, DC). While there, she served as president of the student chapter of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. In 2019, Dr. Jen completed her specialty training with NYU Langone Hospitals in Tampa, Florida. During her training years she was awarded the Dental Net scholarship, the Walton Foundation scholarship, Sophomore Dental Student of the Year, National Dental Association scholarship, Award for Academic Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry, AAPD Predoctoral Student Merit Award, and the Robert E. Primosch Academic Excellence Award.
Dr. Jen’s desire to become a pediatric dentist goes well beyond her love for children. She wholeheartedly seeks to influence a generation, a family to pursue good oral hygiene. As a pediatric dentist, she believes that one is responsible for educating not just the patient, but also the primary caregiver on proper oral hygiene and overall health. In the future, she desires to open a public health dental clinic in her family’s native home of Haiti. There, she hopes to positively influence a nation by providing services in pediatric dentistry. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, writing, traveling, hiking, dancing, and spending time with her loved ones, including her dog, Jaxon.
Dr. Jen is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association and the Florida Dental Association.
